Taste of Dublin

I spent a fair portion of the late afternoon yesterday dodging the rain at Taste of Dublin in the Iveagh Gardens behind St Stephen’s Green. The ultimate, must-have, accessory was a see-through plastic rain poncho and thankfully there were 20,000 of them on hand to keep everyone looking their best. It was chilly too, so some heart-warming food was called for and I made my way straight to Jaipur where the endlessly talented Sunil Ghai was in charge, with some Bombay Railway Lamb Curry ready to hand.

Made with hand pounded lamb mince this was another winning dish from Ghai and if you don’t make it to Taste of Dublin this weekend be sure to drop into his restaurant, Ananda in the Dundrum Town Centre, to sample some of the best food in Ireland. It is worth making an effort to get to Taste, however, as you will be able to sample the cooking of a host of talented chefs all under the one ‘roof’. There is an impressive range of wines and beers awaiting your attention also. As ever at this event you need to be aware of haemorrhaging money at an alarming rate, especially if you have the family with you. But the party atmosphere comes free and if the sun shines there is no better venue for such an event than the Iveagh Gardens.

NERDY TIP
When looking for the Iveagh Gardens those who wish to occupy the moral high ground of correct pronunciation will say ‘Ive-ugh’, rather than ‘Ivy’, letting it slide away on the finish rather than stopping abruptly. Try it – nobody will have the faintest notion what you are talking about.
